Walk 2 - Crow Mill Bridge to Kilby Bridge [Double Rail
Lock is approx 1 mile - half way]
Approx 2 miles - (About 1 hour)
This walk is along the Grand Union Canal towpath all the way to Kilby Bridge. If you want to take in Walk 3 back to Countesthorpe, turn off at Double Rail Lock.
Join
the Grand Union Canal towpath at Crow Mill Bridge and continue to walk passed
the mill (not actually visible when on towpath). On the far bank you can see
the new houses on Lansdowne Grove, South Wigston.
After a ¼ mile you come to Ervin's Lock (sometimes called Irving's after the farmer who owned the field) and soon after, Pochin's Bridge and Knight's Bridge.

The halfway point of this walk is Double rail lock, built in 1928. This is a lovely spot for a break and represent a crossroads of paths. You could cross the canal and take the path to Wigston's Little Hill Estate (crossing the mainline railway) or Walk 3 back to Countesthorpe .or carry on to Kilby Bridge.

Continuing towards Kilby, you soon come to Taylor's Bridge. After a ¼ mile and nearing the walk end, Kilby Lock, a combination of a small bridge and lock.
As you pass this lock, you get your first glimpse of the Midland Mainline on the left, the main Leicester to London rail track. Continue for 12 mile to Kilby Bridge, where there are often canal boats on the moorings and the Navigation Inn, for a rest and a bite to eat.
